of Washington

Jurisdiction: The boundaries of the Tulalip Reservation total 22,000 acres of land within Snohomish County, Washington.

The need for a coordinated tribal opioid response project is evidenced by the opioid epidemic plaguing the Tulalip Tribes Reservation for the past several years. Opioid use rates continue to rise, and the negative impacts to individual tribal members and the community is staggering. This project addressed service gaps including the need for increased community outreach, education, and engagement; expanded prevention and intervention efforts; and increased data collection, coordination, and consistency specifically related to the opioid crisis. The project included a full-time social worker as part of the police response to assist with other interventions. As part of the grant, the Tulalip Tribes of Washington led an effort to gather data from area partners on fatal and nonfatal overdoses and entered that data into the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP), as well as expanded access to Narcan.
